Expressions that change, like the seasons
Before we knew it, nearly five years have passed since this leather stool was first made. What began as pale natural leather has gradually deepened into a rich amber tone. There has been no special maintenance. No oil applied—simply used over time, moving between the city and nature. Sunlight, humidity, the morning dew at camp. The time spent using it day after day. Through these small accumulations, the leather slowly begins to reveal its beautiful character.
Nume leather is an honest material. Stains, sun marks, and creases all remain as they are. Things that may feel slightly noticeable when new somehow become endearing over time. The stools photographed here have changed naturally in this way. The subtle differences in the depth of amber tone depending on age are also a beautiful sight.
Many people today may feel that time passes faster than before. Perhaps because we live in the age of AI, we sometimes find ourselves wanting to feel time moving more slowly. Placing ourselves in nature and simply sensing the flow of time. Not only while camping, but even taking just the stool outside and sitting quietly with the scenery. Moments like these can be surprisingly comforting.
Leather does not change overnight. Use it, let it catch a little sunlight, and use it again. Before long, the amber tone slowly deepens. And in those moments when you suddenly notice that passage of time, there is a quiet sense of relief. Perhaps this is one of the simple pleasures of living with a tool. Even after five years, the nume leather continues to grow more expressive. We look forward to seeing how it will continue to change.
Black, too, has a beautiful expression
The black leather model has been available for about a year. Its changes are still just beginning, but signs of use are gradually appearing. Over time, it will develop its own unique character. Tools become more familiar the more they are used. No need to rush—simply continue using them. Within that process, small changes quietly shape the character of the tool itself.
The leather version of the Universal Stool arrives only once or twice a year. From this release onward, it will be offered through regular sales rather than lottery sales.
