Robert Herder / IBEX120 Stainless Steel Blade
Robert Herder / IBEX120 Stainless Steel Blade
Superior sharpness and beauty
Robert Herder was founded in 1872 in Solingen, Germany, a city famous for knife making. It is the only knife manufacturer in the city that continues to use traditional handmade manufacturing methods. The unique blade sharpening technique known as "Solinger-Dunschlif" creates an extremely thin and sharp-edged blade, and the mirror polishing known as "Braun-Priesten" gives off a unique bluish iridescent light, creating a high-quality sharpness and beauty.
A beautiful new ratchet pocket knife that combines traditional style with modern technology. Wanderout offers a sophisticated style, but by incorporating classic design elements in key areas, it also enhances the outdoor mood. The knife is a particular point that you want to pay attention to. The IBEX blade has beautiful details based on the historical shape, specially made for Hadramaut in southern Arabia in ancient times. The ratchet lock works when opening and closing, and holds the blade firmly in place in stages, making it extremely safe. The smoked oak handle is elastic and comfortable to the touch, and is of high quality and weather resistant. It is suitable for cooking, as well as any outdoor scene, and is of a quality that can be used for serious hunting. The 2.5mm thick blade is useful for preparing kindling for a bonfire, splitting coniferous firewood into small pieces, and making feather sticks. Although the total length is 290mm, it is lightweight at about 79.8g, so it is easy to handle.
You can choose from two types of blades: stainless steel and carbon . Stainless steel is not only sharp, but also has excellent corrosion resistance and is easy to maintain. Wanderout will be releasing it first in Japan.
- The quality of stainless steel blade knives is very important. We place great importance on the selection of high-quality steel grades, careful heat treatment and resistant, extremely sharp grinding geometry. The blades made of stainless steel 1.4116 (X50CrMoV15) are characterized by their excellent dimensional stability under high loads. Hardness of about HRC 57, carbon content of about 0.55% and chromium content of about 15%, not only guarantee toughness and resistance, but stainless steel blades are also easy to sharpen and maintain.
- Blade Shape
The IBEX blade is based on the old shape of the Hadramaut, which was made in factories in the 19th century. It is reminiscent of the so-called sheep's foot blade, but with a much slimmer tip. The back of the IBEX is straight and only slightly slopes towards the tip in the front area. This makes the blade very stable. The cutting edge runs with a slight curve, making it ideal for cutting and slicing.
- Blade shape and sharpening
IBEX blades have a stable blade geometry due to their convex cross section. They are 2.5 mm thick before sharpening. After grinding and fine glazing they are tapered and the cutting edge is given a final sharpening to ensure robustness and high sharpness.
- Smoked oak handle
IBEX handles are crafted with beautiful lines and finished with oil, showcasing the natural properties of the material. Smoked Oak is a modified oak wood that turns dark brown to black with ammonia, making it more resilient and weather resistant. Smoked Oak has a striking appearance and is gaining attention as a sustainable alternative to ebony.
