In Search of Arctic Style

There’s a special allure to winter camping—quietly gazing at a wood stove and embracing an authentic, unhurried experience. In our search for new styles from around the world, we found inspiration in Norway’s Arctic Lavvo. We commissioned a special wanderout edition TC tent, crafted to match this vision.

Based in Kautokeino, northern Lapland, Arctic Lavvo carries forward the culture, values, and craftsmanship of the Sámi people, the indigenous nomads of the Arctic Circle who have long lived in Lavvu tents. With over 30 years of history, their factory is renowned across Scandinavia and beyond for its quality. In 2016, they officially launched the Arctic Lavvo brand, offering a unique fusion of classic tradition and modern innovation.

After a full year of testing, we developed a model tailored to Japan’s four distinct seasons. The serene sand color blends harmoniously into Japan’s natural landscapes, creating a timeless presence. The TC (Technical Cotton) fabric is non-brushed for year-round use, providing a crisp texture that enhances durability and refines the tent’s silhouette. The aluminum center pole has been thickened for greater strength, built to last through generations—just as the Sámi have passed down their traditions.

To address the common limitation of space in single-pole tents, the base has been designed as a dodecagon (12-sided), maximizing interior room while ensuring excellent wind resistance. The 8-10 size model stands at 306 cm in height, with a 490 cm diameter, and weighs 21 kg, striking a balance between spaciousness and manageability. Two entrances with mosquito nets make the tent comfortable even in hot and humid summers. And of course, in winter, it becomes a true Arctic-style shelter with a wood stove.

In subzero conditions, this tent is the largest size that can be effectively heated with a standard wood stove, allowing you to travel lighter. (Please note that larger tents typically require oversized stoves for adequate heating, and individual experiences may vary.)

Using fire inside a tent always comes with personal responsibility, so choosing a manufacturer with proven durability and trustworthiness is essential. For us, the answer was Arctic Lavvo. Their tents, imbued with the culture and craftsmanship of the Arctic Sámi people, offer an unparalleled, authentic atmosphere.

*Pegs are not included. Please use heavy-duty pegs approximately 20 cm in length suitable for large tents. While setup is possible with a minimum of 12 pegs, 24 pegs are recommended, including those for the guy lines. Due to rising costs of raw materials and fluctuations in exchange rates, manufacturing costs have continued to increase. This measure is in place to avoid raising the retail price, and we appreciate your understanding.

*The aluminum poles are left in a classic, raw finish and may have scratches, marks, or small dents as shown in the images. When set up, the poles may slightly bend due to uneven ground, but this helps distribute the load across the peg-down points and does not affect durability. Please be aware of this before purchase.

*The use of fire inside the tent is at your own risk. Please understand that there has been an increase in accidents such as carbon monoxide poisoning and fires involving tents and sleeping bags. Even experienced users should exercise the utmost caution, ensure proper ventilation, regularly check peg-down points, and confirm that all fires are extinguished before sleeping. Please consider purchasing only if you fully understand these precautions.

*There is currently no official distributor in Japan, so manufacturer warranties are not available. However, we will provide our usual customer support. In the case of initial defects, we will arrange for parts replacement. For damage incurred during use, we can assist with ordering parts from the manufacturer (for a fee) or refer you to a repair service.
